The winter months offer up some of the best trips all year, here are our recommendations for the top destinations from both the UK and Europe.
The Lake District
The Lake District is beautiful all year round, but in the Winter this land is transformed and takes on a different stature. When the snow falls on this rural part of Cumbria, the district becomes a haven for climbers and walkers alike. With views unmatched by anywhere else in the UK, make sure you go to the Lake District this Winter.
The town of Fowey is situated on a picturesque estuary. Fowey makes for the ideal Cornish winter destination thanks to its location. There are local attractions, with the South West coastal path and the famous Eden Project close by.
The Winter does nothing to reduce this area's appeal; in fact, it may even bring the best out of it. The region's snowy peaks offer fantastic views for those willing to make the climb. Surrounded by campervan parks, this national park is a great example of a fantastic Winter trip in the UK.
It’s a long drive for most, but Edinburgh more than makes up for that. The historic Scottish capital city is full of things to do, with Edinburgh castle and the zoo being the stars of the show. Camp sites can be found just outside the city, perfectly placed for you to drive in and explore.
One of the best destinations for a mountain biking holiday in the UK, the Clwydian Range in North Wales makes a great Winter trip. Novice riders can head over to Coed Llandgela and attempt the runs there, while the experienced riders can get their blood pumping descending the Clwydian Hills.
Waking up each morning to the backdrop of the Peak District is a great way to get a Winter's morning started. With its amazing peaks and climbs, this amazing landscape in Derbyshire is a walker’s paradise.
Cairngorms National Park
The largest national park in the UK, Cairngorms is a true wilderness in central Scotland. With its mixture of rare wildlife and stunning scenery, it makes a fantastic destination any time of the year. The park is well adapted for tourists, with skiing, shooting, walking and fishing, all activities that occur within this unique landscape.
When you’re wrapped in a wetsuit and surfing its famous beach, you can be forgiven for forgetting its winter. The sun may have gone but the waves are even better this time of year.
