Rental Policies & Frequently Asked Questions
What’s your rental period?
Our minimum rental period is a 3 day weekend hire.
What documentation do I need to bring?
Each intended driver will need to bring their full driving licence, plus two utility bill with addresses that match the licence. Overseas licence holders will need to bring their licence and passport. We cannot hire the vehicle without these documents.
What is the handover process and how long will it take?
The handover process will ensure as the hirer you understand your responsibitlies and know how to use the controls, appliances and features of the van. You should allow approximately 30 minutes for the handover. There will be an operations manual in the vehicle and you will be given a contact number should you require any assistance during your rental.
What happens in the event of a breakdown?
Your hire includes breakdown cover. Full details of who to contact in the event of a breakdown will be in the operations manual given to you at the handover. In the unlikely circumstance that the problem cannot be rectified at the roadside, we will supply a replacement vehicle (subject to availability).
Who can drive the campervan?
Those who intend to drive the van must be between 25-75 years of age and have completed a DVLA Licence Check prior to rental. Each aspect of this process will be approved following completion of our self-drive hire proposal form. If you have any uncertainties regarding driver requirements, please speak to a member of staff prior to rental.
Can vans be taken outside the UK?
Yes. You must inform us that you will be taking the van outside the UK and we will ensure that you are covered to drive in any EU country. European travel kits are available for hire too.
Where do we collect the van?
Our address: Units 15-16 Pucklechurch Trading Estate, Pucklechurch, Bristol, BS16 9QH.
Your vehicle can be left at our safe and secure site for the duration of your rental. We can arrange to pick you up from Bristol Airport or any Bristol train station. If you are an overseas visitor or are arriving at a location not listed, please enquire with a member of our staff regarding collection.
How many people can seat and sleep in the vans?
All our campervans can sleep 4 people; 2 in the roof bed and 2 in the rock and roll bed.
Do the campervans have an energy and water supply?
All our campervans have 12V and 240V sockets and a three stage leisure battery. 100 watt solar panels are fitted to the vans which enable you to stay off grid for seven days without any 240V hook up. Campervans have a built-in gas supply and you will be provided with a bottle of gas at the start of your hire. You will also have a water supply from the 27 litre underside water storage.
What type of fuel do the vans use?
Diesel fuel only.
Do you allow dogs in the campervans?
Unfortunately dogs are not permitted to travel in our campervans.
Where can we go and stay at night?
Please see the PLAN YOUR TRIP page for details on exciting things to do and places to go that will suit everybody’s requirements. There are many excellent campsites and holiday parks in the UK and Europe that you will also find on the 'Plan Your Trip' pages. In England and Wales, there is no legal right to wild camp, but there are plenty of remote spots. It is your responsibility to ensure that you stay somewhere that is legal and safe. Steer clear of private property and farming land and you should be fine.
What do you supply and what shall I bring?
In addition to the features and fitted equipment with the van, we will supply you with mugs, plates, bowls, and tea towels, sauce/frying pans, kettle, corkscrew, can/bottle opener and cutlery. Please see the campervan's full specification for a complete list of equipment and features supplied with each van. We would suggest you bring bedding, towels, cleaning products and any additional essentials you require for comfortable living. Awnings can be supplied by Dawsonrentals at a cost and are subject to availability so please contact us to discuss. We suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment. Alternatively, awning rails are fitted to all our vans so feel free to bring your own.
Can we smoke in the van?
We politely ask that nobody smokes in our vans.
